Earlier this year, Bouncer Digital had the privilege of attending the XBIZ Show 2024 in Los Angeles, the adult industry’s premier conference, where we gathered invaluable insights into the latest trends and challenges that are shaping the landscape. The event kicked off with a wealth of valuable information about the ever-changing landscape of the adult entertainment industry. In this article, we’ll dive into the top 5 takeaways from the conference, highlighting the trends, challenges, and innovations that are shaping the future of adult content:

Navigating Technological Challenges:

Adapting to rapid technological changes remains a significant challenge in the adult industry. Industry giants are actively seeking solutions to comply with regulations while maintaining business growth. Age verification software and digital identity verification emerged as crucial considerations in this ever-evolving landscape.

Gender Trends and Brand Changes:

During the discussions, industry luminaries including Bishop AEBN, Colin A. of Adult Empire, Sana G. of PornHub, Austin Fiascone of Mr. Skin, and Director Mike Quasar shed light on emerging trends and rebranding within the adult content sector. Authenticity and personal branding took center stage as core themes, reflecting the industry’s ongoing evolution. The challenges posed by short-form video content and the need for robust user verification underscored the importance of agile strategies to navigate evolving international regulations. Online age verification systems emerged as pivotal tools to ensure compliance and build trust with users, reflecting the industry’s commitment to responsible practices and user protection.

Redefining Content Recognition:

Exploring novel solutions for age verification, including body features, tattoos or brands, was a focal point. As the industry struggles to protect content creators, especially when facial features are hidden, innovative approaches are essential.

Embracing the Expanding Role of Artificial Intelligence:

Discussions revolved around the potential and limitations of facial recognition technology, with a particular focus on the role of AI in age verification and fraud detection. The industry showcased the diverse capabilities of AI and its increasing integration into operational processes. Online age verification systems are becoming more sophisticated to meet regulatory requirements.

Legislative Landscape and Privacy Concerns:

Amidst the shifting regulatory landscape, one undeniable truth emerges: age verification is cementing itself as a cornerstone of the adult content industry, far from a passing trend. Solomon Friedman, Partner at Ethical Capital Partners who acquired Pornhub in 2023, reinforced this point during the discussions. His emphasis on the enduring importance of user identity verification resonated deeply. With growing concerns over user data security and privacy, the demand for solutions aligned with evolving regulations has never been more pressing. Age verification apps and online platforms are quickly becoming indispensable tools for businesses, allowing them to maintain compliance standards and safeguard user privacy with confidence.

Reflecting on the insights gathered at the 2024 XBIZ Show, one crucial aspect stands out: the paramount importance of age verification in the adult industry. At Bouncer Digital, we understand the importance of protecting minors and ensuring regulatory compliance. Our cutting-edge age verification technology offers a robust solution to protect users and maintain industry integrity. By leveraging advanced AI and biometric recognition, Bouncer Digital provides seamless and secure age verification, enabling businesses to create safer online environments while adhering to regulatory standards.

“The industry requires tools to regulate the responsible consumption of its content; they are the main stakeholders in creating an ecosystem with zero tolerance for minors. The education received at home and in schools poses a significant challenge for society to improve, as it is a collective problem that directly impacts the future of new generations. At Bouncer, we advocate for corporate responsibility, ethical consumption, and child protection, thus creating a safe and efficient environment for all audiences. Now it is up to public regulators to enact legislation that allows the use of new technologies while protecting minors through access controls and age verification systems,” according to Javier Olmeda, Director of Operations and Sales at Bouncer Digital, who attended the XBiz Show this year and connected with industry leaders from around the world.

Where can our technology be used?

Bouncer Digital’s age validation technology can be applied in a variety of industries and sectors to ensure compliance with age-restricted content or product access regulations and ensure the safety of minors in the digital environment:

  • Adult content websites: age verification on adult entertainment platforms to prevent access by minors.
  • E-commerce platforms with 18+ products: Verification in online stores that sell age-restricted products such as alcohol, tobacco or vapes.
  • Physical vending machines: In self-service machines that sell restricted products, such as alcoholic beverages, cigarettes or vapes, to ensure that the purchaser complies with the legal age.
  • Online gambling platforms: Age verification on online gambling platforms to ensure that only adults can access gambling.

Privacy and Data Protection

Bouncer Digital’s facial age estimation does not involve the processing of biometric data for identification purposes. Our system does not allow unique identification of a person, but merely estimates age from facial characteristics. This ensures that personal data is not processed or stored in an irregular manner. We do not store or share images, and data is never sold or transferred to third parties.

Compliance and Regulations

Bouncer Digital is committed to compliance with international data protection and privacy regulations. Our technology is designed to meet the standards set forth in various global regulations, such as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and privacy by design principles.

In addition, our technology follows international best practices in terms of privacy protection and data minimization in decision making to perform age validation.

Specifically, Bouncer Digital conforms to the following technical and regulatory standards:

  • KJM (Commission for the Protection of Minors in Media) in Germany.
  • British Standards Institution PAS 1296: Code of practice for age verification, applicable on online and physical platforms in the United Kingdom.
  • Regulations in other countries: Bouncer Digital complies with the regulations in force in countries such as France, Ireland, India, Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand, where technological solutions similar to ours are already approved and in use.

In Bouncer Digital we have developed a technological solution that is fully compatible with the age verification regulations required in different countries and complies with the principles of Privacy and Data Protection.

How it works

Bouncer Digital’s facial age verification technology allows estimating a person’s age in real time using a process of biometric analysis and liveness check.

Bouncer employs advanced artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze facial features in order to estimate a person’s age. The technology is highly accurate in the biometric analysis of the user, 99.5% effective, and is performed anonymously, fairly and impartially, regardless of gender, race or skin tone.

Bouncer complies with the principle of “privacy by default” and “data minimization”, which means that we use the technology for the sole purpose of validating the user’s age of majority and not storing any data from the process.
